Valheim Building tricks and tips

If you have been scratching your head for several hours straight over Valheim and you don’t know from where to proceed. We have gathered up everything you need to get you going in building your afterlife! This Viking-themed survival game may turn a lot of heads, and we assume you clicked this one because you face the same issue.

Valheim requires you spending a lot of time learning, experimenting, venturing and upgrading, and if done properly, you can be the best Viking Hero!

This beginner’s guide will serve you wonders and will be filled with a lot of tips and tricks that get you equipped. Set in the tenth realm of the Nordic cosmos, the world of Valheim is filled with bountiful landscapes and death-dealing creatures. Under Odin’s rule, you have been sent to defeat Valheim’s most lethal monsters- to do so you need to build yourself up and upgrade your gear, improve your skills, and construct a durable base.

To get you started and help you survive the detrimental environment you are set in, here are what you need to do on the first day:

The primal focus of this guide is to keep you all in one piece and prepare you with the basics. After you finish creating your character and talking to Hugin, venture the vast land and search for some basic tools like stone for your craft. Now, there are a myriad of materials like wood, iron, silver, etc. Begin by harvesting some wood from branches on the ground or you can opt for punching plants and bushes. Stones on the other hand can be mined from the ground.

By the end of the day, the player should have at least food, a workbench, a campfire, and a bed, to fulfil his or her basic needs.
The first weapon you should begin crafting is an Axe: to do so start by punching trees and picking up branches for wood. The world of Valheim is definitely not a friendly one, only the fittest survive. Head over Saplings (small trees) and punch them until you get branches and the needed amount of wood. As a novice Viking, punching enemies consumes a lot of stamina, that is why you have to get a club and use it for the time being. You also need a hammer for your workbench.

Your workbench needs to be covered and protected from elements. We will cover a whole guide about the Valheim workbench, so make sure to take a look at it. This tool basically helps you repair your broken tools and weapons.

Stone is a bit of a challenge to get, unlike wood, you need to search for small rocks on the ground, and that alone will take time and sharp eyes. Don’t confuse Flint for Stone- the former is a different material you will be using a bit farther in the game. However, if you feel stuck, you can look for Stone on the side of a cliff; 15 to 20 Stones should suffice along with 30 to 40 wood will do just fine as a start. Once you have everything you need, craft your Axe and your hammer, and let us get going.

The next step is to build a workbench; it is a prerequisite if you wish to build and repair your tools. You need about 10 pieces of wood that is pretty much it. Don’t worry about the place of the workbench, you can dismantle and recover everything you used to build it. The next thing you need to build is a Lean-To; simply put, it is a building with 2 walls and a roof on top.

The roof is a very crucial part; build two walls behind your workbench and make sure they’re placed side by side. Construct a 45-degree roof stretching out from the wall. You are all set now moving on to other stuff that needs building.

BUILD A CAMPFIRE AND A BED

The final step in this part of the guide is building a campfire and a bed.

Valheim Firepit

You cannot be a Viking survivalist without a campfire to warm you in those cold icy days. You cannot also regenerate your vigour without your sweet 8h sleep. These two are essential!
Similar to your workbench, your bed must have a roof and a shelter over it. You might get a message stating that “your bed is too exposed”.

In this case this means that you do not have sufficient coverage over your head or on the sides of the bed. On either side, place a wall and widen it or you can extend the rooftop until you can use it as a bed. Afterwards, build a nearby campfire and that’s it, your first day is DONE! Now this guide is only getting started, you need to build your first base and we will help you through this process.
We will keep you updated with more building tips and hacks until you manage to do the rest yourself and explore the vast Valheim realm.
